Laguna Beach, CA – ArtLofts Artist Work/Live launches as the summer sun heats up and the 2023 Laguna Beach festival season kicks off. On Friday, June 16th, Dornin Investment Group (“DIG”) hosted new residents, project supporters, local artists, politicians, and the projects development team for food, drinks and live music. The 17,000 square foot development in Laguna Canyon represents the first ground up build for DIG and the largest project in Laguna Beach since the Montage’s delivery in 2003.
The project was originally conceived by local artists sculptor, Louis Longi, who brought the land and a dream to DIG Founders, Chris and Marcella Dornin, to shepherd the project through a lengthy entitlement and development process. A decade later, the project launched with 50% of the 28 single and two-story studios already leased. Leasing efforts are led by DIG’s, Philip Smith. The artist occupancy permits are overseen by the Laguna Beach Arts Commission and to date, approved tenants include sculptors, painters, digital media artists, singers, filmmakers, and musicians. 33% of the units have been capped at affordable rental rates as established by the County of Orange providing much needed housing in Laguna Beach.
Echoing DIGs deep roots and commitment to the community, a host of sustainable design attributes like solar panels, bioretention basins for handling storm water, drought resistant landscaping and electric vehicle charging stations. To further embrace its location in Laguna Canyon and an environment of cohabitation and collaboration the project features 9 outdoor communal work decks, a multiscreen media lounge, a commercial art gallery with flexible presentation space, and a communal barbeque and outdoor dining area. The unit interior highlights a flexible industrial art factory sensibility offset with hardwearing luxury materials for a balanced creative work/live residence. DIG broke ground in 2021 and will continue with the project as leasing and property management. Additional legacy developments in the works for DIG include the historical restoration of the Coast Liquor (delivering summer 2023) and the historical restoration of the Coast Inn in Laguna Beach.
ArtLofts was developed with professional partners from Stearns Architecture, Bob Lawson Structural Engineering, Toal Engineering, Salas O’Brien, Glumac, G3 Soilworks and WJK Development (GC).
